Your Words, Your Format
#

ILYS makes it easy to take your writing anywhere. Export your stories as plain text, formatted PDFs, Markdown files, or even OPML for tools like Scrivener.


How to Export
#

  1. In the Editor, click the menu
  2. Choose your format
  3. The file downloads to your computer

You can export:

  • A single section
  • An entire story (all sections combined)
  • All stories at once (from Profile settings)

Available Formats
#

TXT (Plain Text)
#

The simplest format. Just your words, no formatting.

Best for:

  • Copying into other apps
  • Maximum compatibility
  • Small file size

File extension: .txt


Markdown (MD)
#

A lightweight format that’s easy to read and convert.

Best for:

  • Writers who use Markdown tools (Obsidian, Notion, etc.)
  • Publishing to blogs
  • Version control (Git)

File extension: .md


OPML (Outline Format)
#

An XML-based format that preserves your story structure.

Best for:

  • Importing into Scrivener
  • Outline-focused writing tools
  • Preserving sections as separate items

File extension: .opml

What’s Included

Each export includes:

  • Story title (for story exports)
  • Section titles (as headings or outline items)
  • Your text content
  • Dividers between sections

What’s not included:

  • Cover images
  • Statistics
  • Focus prompts

Tips
#

  • Use TXT for copying — Paste into any app without formatting issues
  • Use OPML for Scrivener & Other Apps — Your sections become binder items
  • Export regularly — Keep backups of your important work
