Easy on the Eyes #
Dark mode flips ILYS to a darker color palette. It’s easier on your eyes in low light and looks pretty sleek too.
How to Turn It On #
- Go to Profile (click your avatar in the header)
- Find General Settings
- Toggle Dark Mode on
The change applies immediately across all of ILYS.
What Changes #
- Backgrounds — Become dark gray or black
- Text — Becomes light (white or off-white)
- Accents — Your theme colors adapt to look good on dark backgrounds
- Icons — Adjust for visibility
Everything stays readable and beautiful.
Light Mode #
Prefer brightness? Keep dark mode off and ILYS uses a light background with dark text. This is the default setting.
Dark Mode + Themes #
Your chosen theme works in both modes. The colors adjust automatically:
- Light mode — Theme colors on light backgrounds
- Dark mode — Theme colors on dark backgrounds
Some themes look dramatically different in dark mode. Try switching to see which you prefer.
When to Use Dark Mode #
- Night writing — Reduce eye strain and blue light
- Low-light environments — Easier to read without squinting
- OLED screens — True blacks save battery
- Personal preference — Some people just like it better
Tips #
- Try it for a week — Give your eyes time to adjust
- Pair with warm lighting — Create a cozy writing environment
- Use with full screen — Maximum immersion in your writing
- Switch based on time of day — Light in the morning, dark at night
Write in whatever light feels right.
