Your Safety Net #
ILYS automatically saves snapshots of your writing sessions. If something goes wrong—browser crash, accidental deletion, cosmic ray—you can recover your work from Autosaves.
How It Works #
While you write, ILYS periodically saves snapshots of your session. These snapshots are stored separately from your main story, creating a recovery path if you need it.
Autosaves are kept for up to one month, then automatically deleted to save space.
Accessing Autosaves #
- From your Dashboard, click Autosaves in the header
- Browse your saved snapshots
What You’ll See #
Each autosave shows:
- Section title — What you were working on
- Story name — Which story it belongs to
- Date/time — When the snapshot was taken
- Preview — First few words of the content
Click any autosave to see its full content.
Recovering from an Autosave #
Found what you need? Here’s how to restore it:
- Click the autosave to view its content
- Click Restore
- Choose where to put the recovered content:
- New story — Creates a fresh story with this content
- Existing story — Adds as a new section to a story you pick
When Autosaves Help #
- Accidental deletion — Deleted a section you didn’t mean to
- Browser crash — Lost your session before saving
- Changed your mind — Want an earlier version of your writing
- Cancelled a session — Hit Cancel instead of Resume by mistake
Limitations #
- One month retention — Autosaves older than 30 days are deleted
- Not every keystroke — Snapshots are periodic, not continuous
- Doesn’t replace backups — Still export your work regularly
Tips #
- Check Autosaves first when something goes wrong
- Don’t rely solely on Autosaves — Export important work
- Act quickly — The sooner you check, the more likely you’ll find what you need
- Browse by date — If you remember when you wrote something, look around that time
Accidents happen. Autosaves helps you recover.
