The ILYS Writing Space

The Toolbar Icons
#

Along the edges of your Writing Space, you’ll find a set of icons. Here’s what each one does:

Celebrate Goal

Turn on goal celebrations to see fireworks when you hit your target. Positive reinforcement works!

Buzzer

Made a typo? Keep going! The buzzer sounds when you press delete—a gentle reminder to stay in flow. You can turn it off if you prefer writing in silence.

Don't Stop Mode

Enable this and ILYS will start nudging you after 7 seconds of inactivity, and won’t stop until you begin writing again. Great for keeping momentum when your mind wants to wander.

Privacy Mode

Hide your words as you type. Perfect for writing without self-judgment and in public spaces. Your text is still there—you just can’t see it until you’re done.

Peeking

Need a quick look at what you wrote? Click the eye icon to peek. But try to resist—staying in flow is the goal.

Letter Size

Adjust how big your text appears on screen. Only available when Privacy Mode is off.

Full Screen

Block out browser tabs and other distractions. Recommended for deep focus sessions.

Goal

Set or change your word count or time goal mid-session. Or remove it entirely if you want to write freely.

Focus Prompt

Add a guiding thought or question to keep your writing on track. It stays visible towards the bottom of your space.

New Section

Start a fresh section without leaving the Writing Space. Useful for separating chapters or ideas.

Exit

Click the arrow to finish and go to the Editor, or click the ILYS logo to return to your Dashboard.

The Progress Bar
#

At the top of your Writing Space, you’ll see your progress toward your goal. As you write, the bar fills up. When you hit 100%, the celebration begins!

Tips for Getting into Flow
#

  • Start typing immediately — Don’t wait for the perfect first sentence.
  • Use Privacy Mode — It’s easier to flow when you can’t see your words.
  • Set a small goal — 250 words or 10 minutes is plenty to start.
  • Turn on Don’t Stop Mode — The nudges keep you from drifting.
  • Go full screen — Remove every possible distraction.

Renaming On-the-Fly
#

You can rename your session or update your focus prompt anytime by clicking directly on them and typing something new.

What Happens to Your Writing?
#

Everything you type is saved automatically. When you finish, head to the Editor to review, edit, and organize your work. Nothing is lost.
